Introduction
Endosleeve or endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), is a minimally invasive weight loss method developed by leading gastroenterologists in 2012. The innovative technology is available at BARIVA by VIARIVA, performed by the renowned team of gastroenterologists.
The Endosleeve is an alternative to surgical methods such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy.
Endosleeve
Endosleeve is a minimally invasive procedure for stomach reduction without surgery or scarring. The procedure is carried out using a flexible probe, an endoscope, and a special suturing technique. The sutures, which are placed in the stomach reduce the size of the stomach by at least 70%, thereby significantly reducing the stomach volume and the amount of space for food. This usually leads to a significant weight loss of 18 to 20% within a year.
As the stomach is completely preserved as an organ, there are fewer complications and you can usually return to your usual activities after two to three days.
For long-term success, a permanent change to a healthy diet and regular exercise is also necessary.
Endosleeve is just one component of successful obesity therapy – reducing body weight. A special diet for two to four weeks after the procedure and accompanying nutritional advice are essential.
The Endosleeve method has been continuously improved for more than ten years and is approved as a standard procedure for the treatment of obesity in several European countries.
Procedure
The procedure begins with a preliminary discussion and an examination at the VIARIVA practice. This will determine whether the Endosleeve is suitable for you. There will then be a complimentary preliminary consultation with the nutritional consultant to discuss the post-intervention process. Before the actual procedure, you will be contacted by our anesthesiologist to discuss the anesthesia. The endosleeve is performed under general anesthesia: a flexible endoscope together with the small, innovative suture device is passed through the mouth into the stomach. The stomach is then sutured endoscopically during the one-hour procedure. This significantly reduces the stomach volume and creates a tube-like shape. This reduces food intake and makes you feel fuller quicker. After the procedure, you can recover in one of our suites, and receive medical care from the VIARIVA team. Normally you can leave the practice the same evening. It is important to adjust your diet and give your body time to get used to your new stomach. Supportive care from nutritionists are crucial for your long-term adaptation to your new lifestyle after the procedure.
